A few weeks ago my husband and I decided to try out Rachael’s Cafe. I have never had lunch there, but we thought of this place on this particular Friday. My husband and I make it a priority to have a date night or day date at least once a week.

Rachael’s Cafe has been around for a long time. A Family owned, Cajun inspired cafe. Rachael’s has daily plate lunch specials as well as a full menu including dishes like Gumbo, Seafood dishes, Sandwiches, Salads, etc.

When we walked in, it had that neighborhood, small town feel. Many of the people dining while we were there appeared to be regulars. People that dine their quite often. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I looked over the menu.

My husband and I sat and chatted a while before ordering. We both decided fairly quickly what we wanted to eat. Everything on the menu sounded great.
Above is my husband’s plate. He decided on the Chicken Fried Steak. As you can see the food was nicely plated. The Chicken Fried Steak was served with Mashed Potatoes and Fresh Green Beans. My husband is a connoisseur of Chicken Fried Steak. He loved this dish. The Chicken Fried Steak was golden brown and placed over a bed of mashed potatoes and brown gravy, not your traditional white gravy, but he said it was delicious. The fresh green beans were cooked perfectly. The green beans had a nice crunch without being under cooked. The beans lacked salt and pepper, but that was ok, we added our own.

I ordered the Catfish Courtbouillon. Their plating was very impressive considering it was a lunch special. The Courtbouillon was served with a few pieces of Fried Catfish, Potato Salad and Fresh Green Beans.

For those who don’t know a Louisiana Style Courtbouillion is a thick, rich, flavored stew that is packed with flavor. This dish was delicious. My uncle is the only one who makes Courtbouillon that I love. This one was right up there with his dish. So good.
The Fried fish was fried golden brown with a nice crust. The green beans were the same as what my husband’s ordered and a side of potato salad. Which was a pretty good as well.
I really enjoyed my meal. The food was superb. Reasonably priced for what you received. My only complaint is that if the Catfish Courtbouillon was the star of the dish, so there should have been more than two small pieces of fish. But that’s my only complaint with that dish. It was delicious and served with love.

Rachael’s also has an extensive healthy menu. Anything from Tuna Steaks, Ribeyes, or Catfish, all options are low carbohydrates and gluten free. Which is a good balance for a restaurant. Because some days a person might want to indulge and other days stick to the diet.

With the cool weather coming, the outdoor space will be awesome. As you can see pictured above, there is lots of room to sit outside on those cool days.

Rachael’s serves Lunch and Dinner. Lunch is served from 10:30-2:00 pm and Dinner from 5:00 pm -8:00 pm. Those are the hours everyday with the exception of Sundays. They are closed. Rachael’s is located at 104 Republic Ave, Lafayette, LA. 70508
