Last night my Mom & I attended the VIP Media Night hosted by The Halal Guys. The Halal Guys is a halal fast casual restaurant franchise that began as a food cart on the south-east corner of 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue in the borough of Manhattan in New York City.

I first tried The Halal Guys on the streets in NYC two years ago. The Halal Guys food cart was on the corner of a busy street. The food was incredibly fresh and well prepared.

When I was contacted about a location coming to Baton Rouge, LA I couldn’t miss the opportunity to eat some of the delicious halal food once again.

We arrived at the VIP Media Night and the restaurant was already semi-packed. After checking in we ordered our food and took a seat.

The pops of yellow and red colors through out the restaurant was very similar to the simple food cart from NYC.

I ordered the Beef Gyro Platter. The platter included rice, lettuce, tomatotes, jalapenos, olives, topped with Beef Gyro finished with their famous white sauce. I also tried the Baba Ganouj with my platter. Baba Ganouj is a grilled eggplant is pureed along with garlic, lemon juice and tahini, a lighter version of the classic Middle Eastern dip. Very garlicy and tasty.

My mom ordered the Chicken Sandwich which was packed with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, onions and bell peppers and finished with the famous white sauce. Superb!

The famous white sauce was a topic of discussion in several of the conversations around us. The White Sauce is a mayonnaise based sauce with a little kick. We tried the white sauce with the fries, I must admit, the fries and the white sauce was really good. A simple item put over the top with the white sauce. Want a little more spice? Add some of the hot sauce to the white sauce!

For dessert we had the Baklava. A Baklava is a rich, sweet dessert pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with syrup or honey. A sweet treat.

Overall the food was really good. Fresh food, friendly service and large portions. The Halal Guys will do well, because they are serving delicious food and are conveniently located in a busy area.

The VIP Media Night was organized. The Swag Bags weren’t too shabby either. Here are a few items from the bag.
