I am continuing my search for All Things King Cakes.  Yesterday, I tried the French King Cake at Poupart’s called a Galette des Rois which is a traditional french cake.

The French King Cake was packaged with a king’s crown and the baby nicely wrapped with instructions.  Unlike most traditional King Cakes this one required a little preparation.  Nothing hard, quite simple for anyone to follow.

I followed the directions and I was ready to dive in.  I cut the french cake and immediately noticed that there was a thin layer of filing.

The cake was flaky, buttery, puffy and really good.  The filing was an almond filing. Delicious.  The flaky crust had a buttery flavor.  Oh so good.

I loved the cake, one thing I immediately noticed was that the cake was not super sweet. Which I personally loved, some king cakes are way too sweet.  A slice would be perfect with a hot cup of coffee or a big glass of milk.

This was my first time having a Galette des Rois and it won’t be my last.

I loved the packaging, the king’s crown included was super cute.  My son got a kick out of it and he was running around like he was royalty.

Poupart’s nailed this King Cake!

A special thank you to all of you that have emailed, message and commented via Facebook or Instagram your All things King Cake suggestions!  Keep them coming!
