Father’s Day weekend the kiddos & I took my husband to lunch at Shucks! The Louisiana Seafood House!!! in Abbeville, LA.
Shucks! has been on my my radar for a few months and I wanted to go. Several of my faithful readers had suggested Shucks for the Crawfish Season but our schedules didn’t allow it. Finally, we had a break in our schedule and decided to give it a try.
Shucks! is a Seafood restaurant serving up Authentic Cajun dishes and some of the best Oysters in the world!
We arrived at Shucks! a little after 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday. The restaurant was packed.
As we walked up, I liked the wooden exterior. Offering a nice seating area for those days you may have to wait to be seated.
The restaurant wasn’t very large, but the feel of the restaurant was a Cajun restaurant. The tables were a little close together which allowed for more seating. But though they were a little close, you still felt like you had a sense of privacy while having a small town family environment.
We were seated towards the back of the restaurant which gave us a good view of the entire restaurant.
The waitress arrived at our table to take our drink orders.
We quickly decided that we would have the Oyster Sampler. The sampler included the Traditional Oyster, Rough-Neck, Oysters Rockefeller and Shuck-a-fella.
The Traditional oysters included Garlic butter with Grated Romano and Parmesan cheese. The Rough-Neck consisted of cream cheese and bacon topped with sauteed jalapenos and bell peppers. The Rockefeller is an oyster topped with cream spinach and a blend of cheeses. And the Shuck-a-fella is a cream based topping with crumbled bacon and finely chopped mushrooms.
All of the oysters were superb in their own right. Well prepared, great flavors, I definitely understand why Shucks! is known to have some of the best Oysters in the World!
We ordered the kid’s entrees when we ordered the Oyster Sampler so their food came out with the sampler.
Z-man ordered the Chicken tenders and fries and baby girl ordered the Grilled Cheese and fries. The kids enjoyed their meals. The kids menu offered several options to choose from. My only complaint would have been the plating of the kid’s plate could have been better. Maybe offering fruit or a vegetable with it. Broccoli or Mandarin oranges are always a good addition. But that would be my only complaint.
The hubby ordered the Shucks! Stacker. Grilled filet Catfish topped with Grilled Crab Cakes and Grilled Shrimp. Topped with a roasted red bell pepper with dill cream sauce and surrounded by grilled veggies. Oh my word! An absolutely incredible dish. Pops of flavor throughout. This dish was really good.
I went with an healthier option and ordered the Shucks! Super Seafood Salad. The salad included perfectly grilled Shrimp, Oysters and Crawfish covering lettuce and tomatoes with croutons. Served with their housemade Sugar Cane Vinaigrette. The Vinaigrette was delicious. The balance of flavors was great without being overly sweet. Everything paired nicely with the dressing.
Goodness gracious, this salad was absolutely delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about this salad. This salad was large and loaded with seafood!
Overall our dining experience at Shucks! did not disappoint. The food was superb. The service was extraordinary. The waitress was very accommodating. A kid-friendly environment. The restaurant felt like you were among friends. Before leaving, we had the opportunity to speak with one of the owners. He was checking with the tables making sure everything was good. A really nice guy.
