Midway on the Square Italian Steakhouse is a family-owned and operated business located in the heart of Abbeville, LA. Offering a unique menu with a Cajun Influenced Italian Menu.
As we walked in the Midway on the Square, the restaurant had an Old World Atmosphere. Decorated and ready for the Holiday season.
We requested a seat near the window since it was such a gorgeous day.
The waiter arrived really quickly to the table. He was a young guy who was very polite and knowledgeable.
I requested a mocktail from the bar with a few suggested flavors. The mocktail was fruity and simple. Pretty good drink. One complaint was that the fruit in the mocktail was dirty and not cleaned properly.
The Italian Nachos was the first thing that we tried. The dish included fried bowtie pasta topped with Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, marinara sauce and a blend of mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
A yummy appetizer. The bowtie was super crispy. In an attempt to prevent the toppings from making the pasta soggy. So good. A great option instead of the normal chips with nachos.
We also tried the Stuffed Crab Salad. A wedged tomato stuffed with a light marinated crabmeat salad topped with capers. The crab meat salad was delicious, but needed a little salt and pepper. The tomato that it was served in was a little mushy.
The waiter bought us some of the Housemade bread with herb butter. Oh my word! Delicious. The bread was amazing. The butter served with the bread was superb. I wanted a loaf to go it was that good!
The Crawfish Cakes were to die for. The absolute best Crawfish Cakes ever. Fresh, beautifully presented, 2 fried creamy crawfish cakes served with a roasted red pepper cream sauce. The crawfish cakes paired nicely with the red pepper cream sauce.
The flavor of the Crawfish Cakes absolutely blew me away. The flavors were incredible.
We also tried the house made meatballs served over spaghetti and topped with red sauce. The meatballs were huge, seasoned and cooked to perfection. A really good choice.
At this point we had so much food, I took this dish to go. My husband and I shared this dish at home. Really good.
FYI, all pasta dishes can be prepared with gluten free pasta at the customers request.
Each of our entrees came with a side dish. I ordered Italian green beans with pancetta which was delicious and my mom had a salad.
Before leaving the waiter came out with the dessert tray. Ok let’s talk about this. I couldn’t eat much more, but that tray was absolutely tempting. I wanted one of each thing.
All desserts are made in house. From Tiramisu, Italian Creme cakes, Cannoli’s and so much more. My goodness.
We chose the Cannoli’s! Absolutely amazing! OH My! The cream in the middle was smooth and delicious. The shell was crispy without being too hard. A nice crunch. The cannoli was evenly filled throughout. Each bite had cream. Incredibly delicious.
My only complaint was that the mocktails were way to expensive especially since there was no alcohol. I order Mocktails at many of the restuarants I dine at and the cost was a bit excessive. I will say if you will charge top dollar for a mocktail it should be flawless and that one wasn’t. But I realize that some people aren’t knowledgeable when it comes to mocktails.
Other than that, our dining experience was amazing. The waiter was both knowledgeable and he served us well. The food was delicious. Everything was served pipping hot.
The restaurant is conveniently located in the square. The restaurant had a very hometown feel. While dining we met some of the locals who were very friendly. A good atmosphere.
