Kanye West & Sunday service
I’ve been following Kanye West’s Sunday service on Instagram for a while now.
One of the things that drew me to it was his ability to take some of the gospel songs I grew up on and transform them with a modern sound. But still maintaining the power of the words and Jesus in the song.
This allows Him to minister to this generation through the same songs but a hot beat.
This past weekend we had the opportunity to host Kanye and the Sunday Service at our church, Lakewood church.
Leading up to the weekend the anticipation was great! Both at church but also the Houston area in general.
Tickets were released a day ahead for the members to get tickets. Which was very nice of Lakewood to do.
Then a day later the tickets were released to the public. Selling out in 7 – 10 minutes wow!
What I love most about that is that this ticket is the hottest ticket in town and it’s about Jesus wow.
Like Kanye or not he is impacting the Christian world. People who haven’t even thought about a relationship with Christ are now open to hearing about Jesus!
Kanye may not be perfect as none of us are, but he’s being saved. He’s taking others on this Faith journey with him.
I love that we get a front row seat to see the transforming power of Jesus in his life.
Jesus’ power is at work and I’m thankful for that!
His talk with pastor Joel was so good. Let me take a minute to say, the two of them on stage together was a monumental moment.
There were so many nuggets just from the talk that was touching. But also revealed how God had been dealing with Kanye for awhile.
He grew up in church. The word was being imparted in him since he was young boy. Though he strayed away, God continued to draw him.
Listening to him share how he was in a mental hospital after a breakdown and how he drew pictures of a church.
God wanted to use him and was dealing with him through dreams and visions. He was at his lowest and GOD came in and helped him!
A powerful quote from Sunday morning’s service, “God’s been calling me for a long time, but the devil has been distracting me for a long time” Kanye West. WOW.
He continued to say, “the arrogance you have seen me display is now being used for the Glory of God”. It doesn’t get much better than that!.
The only superstar is Jesus, West said in his interview.
His wife was also there supporting him! I love that she supports him and encourages him. Very important in a marriage.
Kanye even said a prayer for everyone.
After leaving church that morning, I was even more pumped to attend the Sunday Service.
Arriving you could feel the excitement in the air. There were people who had been in line since 5 am that Sunday morning. Wow!
We went through security and finally we were inside. Now to find a seat, we quickly found a seat and waited in anticipation.
The band began taking their places on stage. About 3 minutes before the choir took the stage, I could hear the band playing music, beginning to set the atmosphere for what I believed would be an amazing night!
The first sound uttered from the choir was from a young man talking about scripture. You could hear the power and anointing as he spoke God’s word.
The Choir director came out and he was ready. He had that look on his face, it’s time to worship the Lord.
They began to sing and move, oh my word, they came out of the gates swinging. Anointed singing and dancing. The power that came as the songs were sang through out the auditorium.
So powerful. Some of the songs that were sung, were songs I grew up listening to and singing in our youth choir. It took me back.
I loved that the songs were played with a fresh sound but the same powerful words.
Songs from the album were also apart of the song selections.
The experience was one that I will remember for a very long time. Not because it was Kanye West but to be able to witness and see the transforming power of God at work.
God is using Him and his choir for the Glory of God.
The evening was filled with Praise, Worship, Singing, Salvations, Dancing and lifting up the name of Jesus.
Our Pastor, Joel Osteen took the stage for a few minutes to share with the audience. Pastor Joel is filled with such wisdom and power. He shares practical wisdom and encouragement that any one can understand and immediately implement into their lives.
One of the quotes that stood out that night was, “You are anointed to be You” Pastor Joel Osteen. Be you, don’t change who you are to fit in any mold or to satisfy people. Walk into the anointing that God has given you. So good.
After speaking, the worship experience continued and it continued to go higher and higher.
So many high points through out the night. The audience was multi-cultural which was a glimpse of how heaven will look. Praise God.
We left that night feeling encouraged, refreshed, empowered and more importantly happy to see how God can transform the lives of anyone who has an open heart and spirit to receive and follow His plan. Which simply put, Jesus is King!
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12 NKJV).
I will leave you with a little snippet of the service.
Feel free to share this blog with a friend! Happy Wednesday!
