My blog post is normally about restaurants that I have dined at and my take on the particular restaurants. Well I decided to do something a little different for this post, I wanted to discuss the fresh salsa that lil mama & I made together.
My mom called me the other day and said that a lady she knew had homegrown tomatoes and she was going to be giving her a few bags of tomatoes.  Lil mama loves tomatoes so mom had a bag full for us. Well on Thursday lil mama and I were home and I remembered I need to use the tomatoes before they went bad. I decided I would take a shot at making some fresh salsa.
I’ve never made salsa before, but I was up for the challenge. I pulled the ingredients out and we got started. As you can see pictured above I had 7 tomatoes, one onion, a handful or so of cilantro, one jalapeno pepper, kosher salt, olive oil, crushed black pepper. I also added minced garlic (in the jar).
I didn’t use a recipe so I didn’t use exact measurements. It was my first time, so I just went off of what I thought. I cut each ingredient into smaller pieces. I removed the seeds from the jalapeno pepper on one side and kept the seeds in the other side. As you can see in the picture all the ingredients were placed in the food processor.

I added a little olive oil and a generous amount of salt and crushed pepper before pulsing. Once all the ingredients were in, I just pulsed to the consistency I desired. Pictured below is the finished product. Very colorful. Lil mama & I sat together and had chips and dip.

For my first salsa, I was very impressed with myself. There are a few things that I would have done differently. One would be to use more cilantro, use some fresh garlic instead of minced garlic. In addition, I would have add a hint of fresh lime and one more jalapeno pepper for some kick or pepper flakes. Because I was serving lil mama as well one pepper was more than enough. Other than that, it was awesome.

A very easy project to do with your children that they can not only help to make, but enjoy once the salsa is finished. I want to know what you use in your salsa that’s different than what I use in mine?
