As a food blogger/writer one of the things I love is trying out restaurants on my own. For those of my followers who are new here, you may not know that in Louisiana I was a Food Writer for a few magazines in Louisiana.

Food writing is something that I am passionate about. In addition, I am a Food Blogger/Influencer.

Food bloggers often love media events. I do too, but I love trying restaurants for the first time when no one knows who or what I do. TO me this is amazing. Why?? Because you get the true genuine experience. Blogger events we see the very best that restaurants have to offer. That’s good too and quite enjoyable.

But the unique organic experiences have always been what I love to bring to my followers. I tell the truth in kindness while also offering solutions. Not in an attempt to downgrade restaurants but to help them be better and also make them aware that you never know who is dining at your establishment.

Today’s review is about Mico’s Hot Chicken. Mico’s is a spot that I have heard a lot about.

My family and I have been wanting to try Mico’s as well. We stopped in for lunch a few Sundays ago after church. It was a gorgeous day to dine outside so it was a perfect scenario.

When we arrived the line was long!! Which was ok we didn’t mind. We placed our orders and found a spot to sit.

Mico’s is practicing social distancing so the tables are spread apart. Which is nice.

But I did notice that the tables were not cleaned after each person left. We carry our own wipes so we took care of it ourselves.

The patio area has TV’s which is nice.

The business was booming. But man the wait was ridiculous. We waited for about 30-45 minutes for our food.

When the food arrived we were excited to see what the hype was all about.

Our food arrived. Our kiddos ordered the 2 tenders basket with fries. No sauce. The basket was supposed to be served with Pickles, Seasoned Waffle fries and Mico’s sauce.

The kiddos box were missing the pickles and Mico’s sauce.

My husband and I both ordered the Mico’s Chicken sammich. We ordered it mild. The sammich included a Fried boneless chicken breast, your choice of level of heat, house made coleslaw, pickles, Mico’s Sauce, and butter toasted brioche bun.

We ordered the Mild since we had no clue how many levels of heat they offered. The website neither the menu bought any clarity.

When my sandwich arrived, I immediately noticed after opening my sandwich that the chicken was dry meaning it had no sauce.

Kind of strange since we ordered mild which should have included sauce.

The line was so long we just ate the food and left.

The sammich, the chicken was decently seasoned. The slaw was pretty good. The bun was perfect.

We ordered a side of waffle fries and Mico’s sauce. Really good. The Mico’s sauce was tasty and reminded me of a yummy Louisiana dipping sauce.

Did the sandwich make up for such a long wait? Unfortunately no. It was good. But I think the sauce would have placed it offer the top. Just being honest.

Prior to publishing this blog I did reach out to confirm my concern about the chicken missing the sauce. The person confirmed that it should have had sauce. No apology was given for the confusion only that she would speak to the chef. Which is fine too. I didn’t want anything from them, but an apology for the food not meeting the standards that I had hoped it would.

Mico’s is a cool spot but consistency and not treating a customer as just a number is critical to the success of any business.

Maybe also having someone who can come out and just walk around make sure the tables are clean and making sure orders are as they should be would be good.

Would I go back and wait 35 minutes for the sandwich I had? No. The Popeyes Spicy sandwich is way better. Now had my sandwich included mild sauce we might be having a different conversation.

The lady taking my order didn’t elaborate about the different heat levels neither did she ask if we had dined with them before. We did review the menu prior but the menu was so basic it didn’t really clarify anything.

In addition we ordered Banana pudding. The banana pudding was from a company called Guzel Cakes. The Love You More (Banana Pudding).

This banana pudding was incredible. So delicious. Oh my goodness.

Overall Mico’s has a cool outdoor space which is perfect for outdoor dining, to watch the game or just chill with your family. We enjoyed our time on the patio. I love the seating and look of the outdoor area.

The food was just ok. I didn’t find that it was the best chicken sandwich I had, but maybe it would have been better had it included the heat. The chicken was fried perfectly, moist not dry. The components of the sandwich worked well together. It was just too bland and I truly believe if it had some sauce on it would have been crazy good.

I think they have a cool concept. But consistent execution is important and key for the success of any business.

The banana pudding by far was the best of the day. Which is sad because it was a dessert that was outsourced.

I close with this, I am very honest about all reviews because it is my name and reputation on the line. If I lie and say it was perfect and it wasn’t my followers will call me out.

I didn’t make it as far as I have by being dishonest. My followers expect my true experience and I am here to give it.

Again I say that consistency is the key for any restaurant. I think that they can fix these minor things by a few adjustments. Making sure you double check each order. Offering a visual of the heat thermometer with the different heat levels they offer near the menu items. Have someone checking tables and making sure people are satisfied or if there is a need. Lastly having someone clean off the tables as people leave.

We will definitely give the food another try in the future. Maybe we will go on a day when they are less busy.
