A few weeks ago, we traveled to New Orleans for the OutCry Tour at the Smoothie King Center. The Concert was amazing. We slept in the next morning. But it was so worth it once we arrived at District Donuts.
I heard about the District Donuts via instagram and couldn’t wait to try this place. Boy were we in for a treat when we arrived at The District.
When we entered the shop, it reminded me of a combination of two of my favorite places in Lafayette, The Lab and Grub Burger Bar. I loved the look of District Donuts. This location had an old school flare with modern, artistic, creative food.
I loved the small community feel. When I left there, I was thinking to myself, we need one of these in our neighborhood pronto.
One of the other reasons we wanted to try this place is because our friends have their own coffee called
Analine Coffee. We knew they would love to try new coffee.
District Donuts believes that best coffee comes from small artisan roasting which is the same thing that our friends believe.
The menu was listed on a Plexiglas style mount. District Donuts now has approximately 100 donut options. Each day there are 7 rotating options daily.
The Donuts are made from scratch and do not include pre-made mixes or artificial flavors. Natural ingredients are used when possible.
The day we dined there were 10 options 3 being your traditional donuts Chocolate, Glazed and Cinnamon Sugar. In addition, there were 7 non-traditional donuts. The options were Nola Cream, Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Miso Praline and Olive Oil Glaze, Limoncello Poppyseeed, Mango Pink and Peppercorn, Peanut Butter and Walnut Honey and Mexican Hot Chocolate.
Wow. The names alone have me salivating all over again.
Let me just say, I did eat a lot that morning. Oh and how it was so worth it. But we did some walking that day. So with that being said, I deserved it.
Anyways, back to blogging. I tried the Miso Praline with Olive Oil Glaze. Omg, so good. The donut was similar to a cake texture, moist not dry. The glaze was delicious. The Miso Bacon Praline on top was superb. The glaze complimented the bacon well. This donut was my favorite.
The Nola Cream (pictured above) is one of their best sellers. The donut had a beautiful glaze on top. Similar to the taste of an Eclair. Very good. The inside had a creamy vanilla filling.
The Mango Pink Peppercorn (pictured above) was very good as well. A little sweeter than the other donuts but the glaze was delicious. The peppercorn added an interesting texture to the donut.
The traditional Chocolate Glaze Donuts with sprinkles was just ok to me. I took a very small bite. I am not much of a chocolate girl. So I didn’t eat much of the donut. The girls did not like the Chocolate one either. I am not sure if the donut had a dark chocolate glaze or not. But it was a bit unusual for the girls not to eat the chocolate donut.
On to the Coffee, I ordered a Vanilla Latte. Superb. The Coffee was delicious. A nice strong coffee that wasn’t overpowered by the cream and vanilla syrup. An absolute perfect cup of coffee. There was no need for any other type of sweetener. Perfect cup.
On to the meat, the Sliders. Blown Away is the best way to put. The first bite had me wishing that we would have ordered more sliders. Yum..
We ordered the Cheeseburger Sliders and the Fried Chicken Sliders. Both were excellent. The CHEESEBURGER included a House Blend Creekstone Black Angus, topped with American Cheese, a Campari Tomato (a tomato that is less acidic, juicy and less filling), the made from scratch B&B Pickles (the pickles are made in house), and the District signature Slider Sauce. Wow, incredible slider. The bread was buttery and toasted, very fresh bread. Superb.
The Fried Chicken Slider included a Joyce Farms thigh was all natural fried to crisp topped with a sweet and spicy coleslaw and the District’s made from scratch Jalapeños (made from scratch, all natural) the , & Crispy Chicken Skin. The chicken was perfectly prepared and fried. The toppings complimented the chicken so well. These sliders are a must try.
Sliders are made fresh to order. The buns are made and delivered daily. The meats used in the sliders the highest quality antibiotic and hormone free. So fresh. We loved it.
District Donuts has an incredible brand. As mentioned earlier, their are a few products that are made in house and bottled. The District also has t-shirts for sale on their shop floor as well as coffee and other drinking items.
Before leaving the girls had the opportunity to watch the lady glaze the donuts. I loved the glass window near the glazing station.
The creativity of the District is endless, I can’t wait to try their other locations. I am definitely looking forward to going back to New Orleans to try the District’s Pies. I am a Desserts girl, so that’s right up my alley.
In addition, District Donuts has a streetcar which is a food truck that looks like a streatcar pretty cool if I must say myself. In addition, District has a Hand pie and Coffee Bar. What an amazing company that offers something for everyone.
District Donuts, Sliders, Brew is located at 2209 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130.
