Community is important.  We are not to do life by ourselves.  We are not an Island unto ourselves.  God commanded us to do life together.  “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV).

Doing life alone is never fun and not what God intended for us. We are to do life together. Life brings many twist and turns that can be tough but having friends who are there to encourage you is a must. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed” (Amos 3:3 KJV)

Since moving here to Houston we have slowly began to make connections with others. Some connections especially from school have been instant.  We are thankful for our kids schools and how helpful they have been.

Church has been a little different.  We attend Lakewood Church currently and it has been a bit more challenging, being in a megachurch makes it extremely hard to connect. Plus because we arrive 20 minutes before church starts due to our drive and we leave right afterwards because church ends a little late and we have to get our kids to bed.

We have been in Houston for 7 1/2 months and in some ways we are settled in others ways not so much.  Lakewood is a bit of a drive for us but the service is well worth the drive.  With encouraging words, preaching and amazing worship we haven’t been able to find anything remotely close to this kind of service.

Lakewood in some ways reminds me of the church I grew up in.  For my new followers, Faith is very important to me.  It has been since I was 13 years old.  My mom raised me with a strong faith background.

Lakewood recently hosted a Block Party.  My family and I decided we wanted to check out one of the Block Party.  This would give us a chance to connect with others and enjoy some fun with others.

The Block Party was hosted in the Katy area.  Where we live currently is close to both the Katy and the Spring area.  So we decided to try the Katy block party since the kiddos were out of school.

As we arrived there were volunteers that had signs welcoming the members and guests.  We parked the car and headed to the area the block party was being hosted. We arrived early and the volunteers were already out and ready to receive the guests.

There was a sign directing us where to go as well as a lady pointing us into the right direction.  Check-in was super easy and quick.

My son spotted the Fun Jumps and that’s where he wanted to go.  So we headed there, he jumped until his heart was content.

Afterwards we headed to the bubbles booth and the kiddos picked up some bubbles.  Can’t go wrong with that.  The bubble machine was cool too.  My kids love bubble machines of all kinds.

There was a games table so the kids played a few games near the table and won prizes.

Fun.

A lady came and told us about the Tattoo booth.  Our daughter wanted to head that way so we did.

Both kids wanted tattoos. One picked a guitar and the other chose a dog. Cute.

We walked around and mingled a bit.  We saw some familiar faces that we see weekly especially in KidsLife.

After exploring we decided to grab a bite to eat from one of the food trucks.  Mingo’s Latin Kitchen.

After checking out the menu we placed our orders.

First up was The Brisket Empanadas.  Fried Latin Pastry with brisket and pico de gallo. Topped Cilantro Ranch and Chipotle Aioli.  So yummy. Perfectly fried with a good balance of flavors.

Our kiddos wanted The Loaded Fries.  It was huge.  So they shared it. The Loaded Fries consisted of Fries, Shredded Chicken, Sauce, Pico de Gallo, Queso Fresco and an egg! Superb.

We also tried the Tacos with Ground Pork and Beef Mixture with mild sauce. One was topped with mango pico de gallo and the traditional pico de gallo.  A great way to celebrate Taco Tuesday.

After eating we heading back to the party.  The music was playing, the weather was perfect and there was wide open space to play.  So the kiddos played a while.

Before leaving one of the Pastors called everyone to the front and thanked everyone for coming.  Door prizes were also given away.

My husband won a gift card from Starbucks! Thanks Lakewood, this gift card will come in handy.

Another thing I love about Lakewood is the diversity.  Meeting people that are African American, Caucasian, Asian, Latino, and so much more.  People from all around the world. I love that.

It was an amazing night and we were glad that we could attend.
