Since moving to Texas I have been on the hunt for some good ole Soul Food. We live in the Cypress area and there appeared to be none near us.
Until a few weeks ago we were leaving from the Katy area after closing on our new home and we stumbled on Breaux J’s Soul Food.
My husband and I joked before getting out of the car, watch that will be someone from Louisiana. We laughed and headed into the restaurant.
As we entered I immediately noticed the gospel music playing in the background. For my new readers who may not know me, I love Gospel Music. The atmosphere in the restaurant was calm and welcoming.
The owner greeted us and began telling us about the menu offerings.
I decided on the Oxtails with rice and gravy with homemade mac n cheese and collard greens with corn bread. This plate lunch was amazing. Absolutely delicious. Everything in my plate was well seasoned.
The homemade mac n cheese was creamy and cheesy. So good. The oxtail was well seasoned and tender. Superb.
My husband decided on the Pork Ribs with sausage, red beans and rice and green beans and cabbage as his sides.
His plate was loaded. It was enough to eat on twice. The food was really good. My husband’s only complaint was that the red beans needed a little more salt. Other than that he enjoyed his food.
While we were eating we had a chance to chat with the owner. After a few minutes of chatting, we found out that he is from the Louisiana area and he knew my grandfather. Small world I tell.
Overall, our dining experience was amazing. The service was top notch. The dishes were some really good home cooked food.
Breaux J’s is serving delicious Soul Food. Food for your body and spirit. A kind man with a restaurant that is calm and welcoming. Southern Hospitality indeed.
The menu items change daily. But I promise you won’t be disappointed.
We enjoyed the food and fellowship. It’s nice to know when I want some delicious Soul Food it’s only a few minutes away.
My only recommendation would be to invest in a menu board with prices for each dish. That’s a simple fix.
Breaux J’s Soul Food is located at 19128 West little York suite J, Katy, Texas. The Hours of Operation are Tuesday – Wednesday 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Thursday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
