This past weekend, my husband, lil mama & I traveled to New Orleans for a weekend getaway. We left Lafayette on Thursday for New Orleans. Our first stop before arriving at our hotel was Lee’s Seafood, Grill & Chinese food. Lee’s is a place that we stop every time we make a trip to New Orleans. Lee’s is located in Kenner. We ran across this place by accident three years ago.  This is one of our favorite hot spots near New Orleans.

Lee’s is located next to a gas station. From the outside you would never think that such good food could come from this place. But oh my goodness, don’t judge content by it’s building. I know that probably makes no sense, but that’s the best I could come up with. Lol. The food is always nice and hot. We usually take our food to go but there is a place to sit and dine.

Lee’s menu for the night was red beans & rice, chicken & sausage gumbo, fried chicken, grilled pork chops topped with onions & bell peppers with gravy, sweet & sour chicken, fried shrimp, grilled fish, fried fish, seasoned smothered turkey necks. The sides were potato salad, chicken-broccoli cheese pasta, lo mein & shrimp fried rice.

Decisions, decisions, decisions, so much food to choose from on the menu. I decided on the red beans & rice with the grilled pork chops and gravy. The Pork Chops were well seasoned, tender, not rubbery or overcooked served with a beautiful brown gravy with onions and bell peppers on top. The red beans & rice were very good, New Orleans styled red beans with the celery taste & lots of spice. The beans had a good creamy consistency.

Usually when I order beans from a restaurant, the beans lack seasoning. In this case, this was not the problem. The beans were spicy enough. I didn’t need any hot sauce or salt. Great meal, my only complaint is that he put too much gravy from the beans over my rice and I don’t like my red beans saucy. Other than that I was well pleased.

The portion sizes are extra large.  I ate quite a bit and didn’t even put a dent in my plate. So I took home lots of leftovers. They are known for serving large portions at a great price. The food is always fresh.

If you go at lunch time be prepared to wait a few minutes. At supper time, its the same thing. We arrived at 4:45 so we beat the crowd. There were a customers, but we didn’t have to wait very long.

My husband ordered the Fried chicken wings, chicken & broccoli cheese pasta and shrimp fried rice. The fried chicken was fried to perfection. Great merry of spices. The chicken wings crust was crispy, golden brown, absolutely delicious. The chicken & broccoli cheese pasta is our favorite dish. The pasta was an angel hair pasta with chunks of chicken breast with steamed broccoli & cheddar cheese! The best, the ultimate comfort dish!

The shrimp fried rice was good but not our favorite. One thing that is good about the dish is the large shrimp. The rice was a little mushy. It did have a good taste but I can’t stand mushy rice.

We have tried many of the above options and we have always been pleasantly pleased. As I stated earlier, we visit this place every time we are in the area. Definitely put Lee’s on your must visit list when you travel to Kenner/New Orleans!

In addition, to their daily menu, Lee’s serves po-boys and sandwiches. Lee’s also offers seafood. Boiled shrimp, boiled crawfish, with potatoes, corn, sausage or turkey neck. We have never had their seafood, but if it’s anything like their other dishes, I am sure you won’t be disappointed. Lee’s also sell desserts, cakes, etc.. We tried the cakes the last time we went to Lee’s but we were not impressed.

For two plate we paid $16.00 which is inexpensive. That’s the cost of a combo from a fast food restaurant, this is a home cook meal. The servers and cashier are very friendly, they do the best they can to make your visit as pleasant as possible.

Overall Lee’s we enjoyed our visit. The food was superb. If you are looking for a place that sells good soul food combined with Chinese and grilling, look no further Lee’s will no disappoint.  Lee’s Seafood, Grill & Chinese Food is located at 2100 Airline Drive, Kenner, LA, 504-472-0966
Check out this restaurant. The food is delicious and easy on the pocket.
