A few weekends ago my husband and I took a little overnight trip to New Orleans. We traveled there the Friday night just the two of us. No kids, no dogs, no schedules, just a time of relaxation and to enjoy each other’s company.
We arrived in the Metairie area, which is where we decided to stay. The Hilton Airport location is one of our favorite hotels. The people there are so nice, the rooms are always clean, the hotel is beautiful. I can go on and on about why we love it, but enough about the hotel.
After resting a few minutes, we decided to head to dinner. My husband had researched this restaurant called Bobby Hebert’s Restaurant and Bar. We decided to give it a try.
Bobby Hebert’s is a sports themed restaurant that combines both sports and the Cajun culture. The restaurant is owned by former New Orleans Saints Player, Bobby Hebert. Bobby was a New Orleans Saints Quarterback with a heck of an arm. His arm was often referred to as a Cannon. Hence he was given the name the Cajun Cannon.
The Bobby Hebert’s Cajun Cannon Restaurant is a collaboration between Bobby, his wife and restaurateur Moe Bader.
We arrived at the restaurant and we immediately loved the color choices for the exterior. Eye catching and bright colored.
As we approached the door, we were greeted by a really nice gentlemen who appeared to be a manager. He was super friendly and welcoming. We were seated very quickly.
The restaurant had an upscale/casual feel without feeling stuffy. There were approximately 30 Televisions throughout the restaurant with a variety of styled seating. We opted for a booth.
The waitress came very quickly and took our drink order. We ordered an appetizer and a small plate.
Our first appetizer was the Cajun Hebert Fries. A large portion of fries that was topped with a zesty crawfish mushroom sauce and cheddar cheese. The fries were crispy. The sauce on top was phenomenal. Cheesy, well balanced crawfish cream sauce with mushrooms. So good.
We also ordered the BBQ Shrimp small plate. Peeled, tail on gulf shrimp . The BBQ shrimp was served in a traditional New Orleans style sauce with butter, rosemary and Cajun spices.
The BBQ shrimp was tangy, seasoned well and cooked perfectly. Some of the best BBQ Shrimp we have ever had. Superb! The dish was served with buttery toasted french bread.
As we read over the menu, we noticed that several of the dishes were topped with the crawfish sauce. It took me a little longer to decide what I wanted because of that. I would suggest adding a few other sauce options.
I decided to go with the Blackened Bayou Duck. The duck was smoked tender and blackened then topped with the crawfish and mushroom cream sauce.
This dish was phenomenal! The duck was crispy and beautifully presented. The seasoning was spot on. Perfectly prepared Duck.
I couldn’t stop eating this dish. In my opinion the duck would have been fine without the cream sauce. But the cream sauce was good on top. The dish was also served with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
My husband ordered the Blackened Redfish Lafourche. The redfish was blackened and served on a bed of mashed potatoes topped with the crawfish cream sauce and fried crawfish tails. Wow!!
A superb dish as well. Seasoned and grilled perfectly. The fried crawfish tails added an extra layer of texture to this wonderful dish. So good.
We decided to try dessert as well. Unfortunately we couldn’t choose which one to share, so we each ordered our own cheesecake. Bad idea, but in a good way. OMG, the cheesecakes were huge. We couldn’t eat an entire one by ourselves.
I ordered the Banana Foster ice cream cake. The banana foster’s ice cream cake was topped with strawberry and chocolate drizzle and whipped cream. So good.
I couldn’t eat the whole thing, it was just too much.
The hubby ordered a Butterfinger Cheesecake. The cheesecake was topped with butterfinger pieces, whip cream and caramel drizzle. I am not a huge fan of butterfinger, but the cheesecake was really good.
We enjoyed our dinner so much. The atmosphere was relaxing. We laughed, watched sports, and talked about all sorts of things. A perfect dining experience.
Overall the food was excellent. Everything was prepared nicely, served hot. The only complaint was that there were too many dishes with the crawfish cream sauce. But other than that, everything was perfect.
