Papa T’s Cafe has been opened for a few months now. We decided to try their restaurant out for lunch. Baby girl was heading back to school, so this was going to be our last lunch of the summer break. This means, it had to be a good one.
Papa T’s is a family-friendly restaurant. You are greeted with a smile and a warm hello. It feels like home when you walk in the door.
The restaurant had a very clean look and was very spacious. The food was served Cafeteria style. All of the entrees and food items were listed on a chalkboard. There was also a menu right as you walked into the door. I was so focused on the menu board, I honestly didn’t see it until I was seated.
The day we dined, the entree options were Shrimp and Grits, Meatloaf, Pork Loin, Chicken and Sausage Pasta and Smothered Beef. There were several sides to choose from including Mustard Green, Candied Yams, Corn, Green Beans and Mac N Cheese.
Baby girl knew exactly what she wanted she ordered the Chicken and Sausage Alfredo over Bow Tie Pasta with Green Beans and a bread. The Alfredo sauce was creamy with hint of spicy seasoning. The dish was well seasoned. I have to say that the Pasta was by far one of my favorite items of the day. The child’s entree plate came with one side dish and a homemade bread. Her side dish was green beans with bacon. The green beans had a smoky bacon taste. Pretty good. The bread is made daily in house. Delicious. The buttery bread was served nice and hot.
The hubby went with the Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes with Steamed Corn, Mustard Greens and a Roll. He loved his dish. The Mashed Potatoes were chunky potatoes served with the Meatloaf. The meatloaf had a sweetness, which was not what we were used too. In spite of the sweetness, the meatloaf was cooked perfectly and very moist. The dish lacked a little salt and pepper but it was delicious.
The Corn was buttery and well seasoned. The mustard greens were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Very good side dishes.
I chose the Smothered Beef over white rice with Mac N Cheese and the Sweet Potato Casserole. The Smothered Beef was just ok to me. The meat was cooked well, but the gravy had a weird taste. I ate just the meat and my two side dishes.
The Mac N Cheese was absolutely delicious. Creamy and cheesy goodness. The Sweet Potato Casserole was so good. Topped with Brown sugar and Pecans. Wow, so good. My grandma has one of the best Sweet Potato Casserole Recipes that I have ever had, but this one was right up there with her recipe. Delicious.
In addition to Entrees, Papa T’s also had Salads like a Chef Salads and Romaine Salads on the menu. Grilled Chicken can be added to the salads.
In addition, for the Vegetarian’s, there was a Vegetable Plate which includes 4 sides. Not a bad deal for the Vegan customers or the customer who may want a light lunch.
Papa T’s also served Desserts like Mississippi Pie, Bread Pudding, Strawberry Parfait, Pecan Pie, Apple Pie as well as a few others. I purchased a pecan pie but ate it later at home. The Pecan pie was very good. Packed with pecans and a nice crust. The Pies are made in house as well.
Overall we enjoyed our experience at Papa T’s. I would recommend you try this place. Great food, good service and friendly environment. We will definitely go back again.
In addition to lunch, Papa T’s serves Breakfast. They are open 10:30 – 2:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
