My family and I were traveling to Dallas, Texas. We decided to stop at Sam’s Southern Eatery for lunch.

As we walked into the restaurant, Sam’s had a small town feel to it. Down to earth, southern, friendly workers.

We were seated really quickly. The waitress took a long time to come and take our drink orders. Once the drinks were ordered, it took a while to come to the table. The waitress seemed to be a little distracted at first but as time went on, she mellowed out and ended up being a really good waitress.

We ordered the Pepper Jack Mac n Cheese bites as our appetizer. The macaroni was made with pepper jack cheese, fried and served with a ranch dipping sauce. The appetizer was delicious. The mac n cheese was so creamy. The kiddos loved the fried mac n cheese bites.

Baby girl ordered the kid’s fried shrimp plate with french fries and hush puppies. The shrimp were golden brown, seasoned and fried perfectly. A great kid option. Very good.

We ordered the Chicken Nuggets and fries for Z-man. The chicken nuggets were just ok. Didn’t taste like real chicken. That kid’s option could use some work. The macaroni was a winner. Creamy and cheesy mac n cheese. Can’t go wrong with that.

The hubby ordered the Fried Catfish Plate. The catfish was fried and seasoned to perfection. Served with two sides fried okra and green beans. The fried okra was so good; green beans were fresh and had a good flavor.

The Catfish was the top dish of the day. So good. The seafood was on point.

I ordered the Chicken Fettuccine served with garlic toast. The fettucine was good but left me a bit underwhelmed. The plate was a little sloppy to me.The fettucine lacked seasoning.

Overall we enjoyed the food at Sam’s Southern Eatery. The seafood was superb.

The only complaints were that the restaurant was a bit confusing, because there was one name on the outside and another name on the menus. But the waitress explained the restaurant owners had recently split and the new menus and containers had not come in yet.

The service was average. The waitress was a little distracted. Like I said previously she eventually got it together. But first impressions are lasting impressions. I definitely think the waitress needed a little help in service and professionalism.

Sam’s was a great place to stop, stretch our legs and grab a bite to eat. The portion sizes were large and the prices were very reasonable for what you get. Good quality food. Good location and easy to find. A family-friendly environment.

Sam’s is located at 6122 Greenwood Rd, Shreveport, LA 71119.
