Adding smoke to a dish or drink has become quite the trend. I watch a lot of cooking shows and it’s been something that I was always intrigued by. Recently, I had an opportunity to test a product called the NIA Portable Smoke Infuser System.
Let me say right off back there are a few things that you will need in addition to this product.
- Batteries
- Matches or lighter
- Wood chips (small ones)
- Glass dome or cover of some sort.
OK, now that we have that out of the way, here is a bit about the NIA.

The wood chips and lighting was a bit tricky, but once we figured it out, it was SMOKIN‘!
I enjoyed playing around with this cool device. Here is what I created, a Smoked Salmon on a bed of Cauliflower Puree topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions and finished with fresh parsley.
Once the dish was plated. I added the plate under the dome with the smoker. The Smoker allowed us to add a smoky flavor to this dish which elevated it to another level.
The smokiness was really nice with the dish I created.
The smoker doesn’t come with the dome but I had a dome at home which made for a dramatic effect.
A cool tool for the home-cook or chef that wants to add a little drama to their dish while also elevating your dish, drink or dessert.
I can’t wait to try it with a mocktail.
