Winter Break with my family was awesome. We enjoyed lots of down time, relaxing, doing stuff in the city, played games, cooking and eating good food and just hanging out.
A few days before Christmas we headed for a day out to Sugar Land Town Center. It was our first time visiting the area.
Sugar Land Town Center is a place to Dine, Shop, Drink, Play and Stay. With many upscale shops to shop, to pick up gifts, grab lunch and enjoy time with family and friends.
There were so many spots to dine. The restaurant directory had something for everyone.
When we first arrived we decided to head over and see the Christmas Tree.
Our son is a ball of energy, so he loved the open space to play. The open space also had spots for families to sit.
There were also water features in the area that were beautiful and peaceful. We spent some time in the area. Then headed out to go check out the Arts museum in the area.
The Art Museum had some cool stuff. My kids both love Art so this was a cool spot to check out.
After leaving the ART Museum we headed out to the kid land that they had setup.
I don’t recall the name of the area but it was really cool. Spots to shop, build with legos, color, selfie booth, get hot chocolate, snacks and a photo area with the Elf on the Shelf. So cute. Our little man enjoyed himself.
It was time for lunch so we headed to State Fare. We noticed State Fare when we drove up and we already knew we wanted to check it out.
State Fare Kitchen & Bar is a Made from Scratch restaurant. Serving Southern cuisines with a little flare.
As we entered the restaurant, I loved the pops of red throughout the restaurant. The restaurant had a very clean, retro style look.
I love the openness of the restaurant as well.
The restaurant had a casual/upscale vibe. A spot that is great for lunch with your family or a Date Night with your significant other. I love the versatility of the decor.
We were seated in a really nice booth that was perfect for our family. Very spacious and located in a great spot of the restaurant.
The Hostess was so nice and she seated us really quickly.
As we waited for someone to come and take our drink orders, we perused the menu. The menu had many great options to choose from.
We decided pretty quickly what we wanted to eat.
The waiter took a very long time to arrive to the table to take our drink order. He finally arrived and returned pretty quickly with our drinks.
I tried the Madame Blueberry and it was delicious. Great balance of flavors. Really good.
Our daughter tried the Fresh Squeezed Lemonade. Yummy.
Our son ordered the Kid’s Hamburger. I loved the plate that the kid’s food was served in. The dish included a Burger, Fries, Apples and Carrots and a cookie. Really well thought out.
But the burger looked like someone was playing catch with it. Then just threw it on the plate.
The burger was good according to my son. So I guess it tasted better than it looked. Kid dinners are just as important as the parents. Just saying.
Baby girl ordered the Pan Fried Crab Cakes. The Crab cakes were huge. Served on a bed of Remoulade sauce and with Hoppin’ John Rice. Absolutely delicious. She loved her dish. The flavors of the Crab Cakes were spot on.
The Hoppin’ John Rice was similar to a jambalaya. My picky eater loved the rice. I couldn’t believe it.
My husband ordered the Shrimp & Andouille Etouffee. This dish consisted of Fried Catfish, A shrimp and andouille etouffee with rice and fried crawfish tails.
This dish tasted like home! They did a good job with this dish. My husband cleaned that plate it was so good!
I ordered the Haring’s Fried Catfish. This dish consisted Fried Catfish, Coleslaw, Fries, Hush Puppies, Tartar sauce and Cocktail Sauce.
Visually the dish could have been better. The fries arrived in a bowl sitting above everything. I think that since the Catfish is main item it should be the focus.
I removed the bowl and replated some of the items for an additional picture. Visually it was better. Just my opinion.
Presentation is important when serving food.
Aside from how it was plated visually, this dish was superb. The fish was fried perfectly. A beautiful color, nice crunch and seasoned nicely. The hand cut fries were delicious as well. The hush puppies were over fried and a little dark on the exterior. I loved the coleslaw. Not to saucy, just right. A really good dish.
Overall all of the food was spectacular. The food was prepared and cooked perfectly. My only complaint would be that the plating on a few of the dishes could have been better.
The portion sizes were great. The Prices of the dishes were good.
We really enjoyed the food.
The service was just ok. The waiter was not good at all. Which is not good because the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. Their service needs work.
I hate that the service wasn’t better because the food was so good!
