Recently I took a day trip to Lafayette to celebrate my birthday with my grandma. We share a birthday and I couldn’t miss celebrating with her. She’s 93, WOW! What a blessing. My family and I visited 1929 several months ago. As I was planning my content for the next few weeks, I made sure to add this one to the list. 1929 is the home of the Oxtail Yakamein. What is this you ask, Oxtail Yakamein is a beef noodle soup with creole seasonings.

Being from Louisiana, I have to admit that I had never eaten this until I visited 1929. I only heard about Yakamein when I was watching a Netflix Show called “Street Food”. They shared all about this New Orleans style dish.

My husband has heard of it and had eaten it prior to us dining at 1929. But he went to college in New Orleans and lived and worked in New Orleans for several years.

In addition to Yakamein, 1929 serves several Louisiana classics like red beans and rice, poor boys, seafood and much more.

4th of July what an amazing day we had as a family. Pool day, good music, good food and finished the evening with fireworks.
We tried a few food trucks yesterday
* Half & Half Bakery some of the best desserts we’ve had here in Texas. Yummy treats and excellent service. Top picks Oreo brownie and 4th of July cupcake
* Katy Sliders a burger food truck. Burgers were excellent. Food was delicious service just ok. Top pick of the day meat lovers sliders with angus beef patty and brisket with fries. Really good!

My crew and I stopped in at Bubba’s 33 in Katy, TX. Bubba’s 33 is American style restaurant. From wings, to nachos, pasta, burgers, sandwiches and much more. There is something on the menu for everyone in your party.
Here are our favorites of the visit:
Lasagna - the lasagna was superb.
Creamy chipotle pasta - a delicious pasta dish but the dish was poorly presented. The pasta was spicy and yummy.
We tried several other items but those two were the best. Honorable mention would be the Steak Dinner.

Okra is something I grew up eating back in Louisiana. I can remember eating it smothered, fried or in a gumbo.
Okra is one of my favorite vegetables. I know some say it’s a fruit because it has seeds. But we were taught it was a vegetable and I’m sticking with it. 🤣😂
Okra back home is fresh. I use to help my grandma cut okra. Finding it fresh here is a little harder but I was able to find some frozen okra.
Smothered okra typically has sausage in it. We love it with shrimp as well. It can be eaten as a meal or as a side.
I prepared as a side with my smothered pork rib. So delicious.

I hope that all the Fathers out there had a wonderful Father’s Day.
I’m so thankful for my husband and the wonderful Father that he is to our kiddos.
We had an amazing lunch following church at Federal American Grill in Katy, TX.
This was our first time dining at any of their locations.
The service, vibe of the restaurant and food was top notch. We enjoyed everything we tried.
Our top 2 items for the day was:
Chicken fried chicken with cheesy potatoes and broccolini. (Delicious)
Braised short ribs with risotto (excellent)
Be sure to get dessert! We took our dessert to go but That Butter cake was phenomenal!

Summer is a slower pace for us. Though my kiddos are still training in their perspective sports preparing for the upcoming seasons.
We have some down time for them to rest and recuperate. Which means mom gets to take it easy too in between training.

Quick lunches are still a priority because I don’t know about your kids, but my kids eat all day long.

Fish Friday with Louisiana fish house. Louisiana fish house is new spot in Katy, TX.
Here’s what we tried:
* Shrimp Gumbo
* Popcorn shrimp with fries
* Cajun catfish étouffée
* Fried catfish and shrimp with coleslaw and onion rings.

The food was really good and fresh. Everything was made to order. Seafood was prepared perfectly. My only complaint is that the shrimp and fish was skimpy (too small).
On a separate visit I tried the boudin balls and the grilled shrimp and grilled redfish with dirty rice and steamed veggies. This portion was huge. I ate off this plate twice.

The service was good. The cashier was very friendly.
