Visiting Louisiana is always so refreshing for us. The people, the culture is so fun! We miss the friendliness of Louisiana people. Just meeting someone at random and having a big conversation like we’ve been knowing them for years.
Don’t get me wrong we love so many amazing things about Texas, but there is no place like being home in Louisiana. The Louisiana culture is engraved in us.
During our last visit we stopped in at a brand new restaurant called The Flats. I stumbled on this restaurant on Instagram. I saved this spot and made sure we had time to stop in for a quick lunch.
We arrived in Lafayette late afternoon. Before checking into our AirBnB we grabbed lunch. The Flats is located in downtown Lafayette. It’s actually next door to Sunday’s Soda Fountain Downtown. If you haven’t checked this spot out, you’re missing out. Here is a link to check out our visit Sunday’s Soda Fountain .
The Flats serves Burgers, Fries, sandwiches and drinks.
The restaurant has a really cool vibe. Kind of upscale diner appeal. I loved the look of the restaurant. The greenery throughout was bright, airy and gave me a relaxed feeling.
They have a really nice patio area. We dined outside because we had our little dog. They were really welcoming with the dog. There was a side alley to get to the patio with your dogs. A bowl is provided for water for the dog.
Our daughter and I went in to place the orders. The girl taking our order was really nice and welcoming. Once the meals were cooked, the waiter brought everything to the table.
They had a good variety of bottled drinks. I haven’t drank a Calypso since I left Louisiana. The strawberry lemonade was so delicious.
We started with the Loaded fries. These were crispy fries topped with pepper jack rotel dip, bacon, pickled jalapeños and chives. Really yummy fries.
Our son ordered the chicky nugs and cajun fries with honey mustard. These were buttermilk chicken nuggets. I love that they were fresh and homemade. Many places put little thought in kids meals. But not The Flats. Yummy option for kids.
Our daughter ordered The Patty Melt. Made with Ella sauce, smoked onion dip, swiss and American cheese. Topped with grilled onions on Texas toast. The burger was more like a smash burger and really thin. The description maybe should have said that. The burger overall was really good but a little too thin for Texas toast.
My husband ordered the Shrimp Cane Bang. Crispy fried shrimp tossed in a cane bang sauce and served on a toasted split top bun topped with green onions. Beautifully presented.
The sandwich was loaded with shrimp. Similar to a lobster roll in presentation. The shrimp was fried perfectly and tossed in the delicious cane bang sauce. Really yummy.
I ordered the Chicken sando. A buttermilk fried thin chicken piece that was topped with a habanero honey mustard, a pickle, shredded lettuce. Served on a toasted brioche bun. The sandwich was simple but nicely presented on the toasted brioche bun. The chicken was fried to perfection. I wish it had a little more of the mustard sauce, but that’s just a preference.
Overall a really good sandwich.
Our visit at The Flats was successful. The service was just ok. The food overall was delicious. A great lunch option in the heart of downtown.
It’s a great place to grab your friends and catch up. Their patio is superb and will be a great spot to hangout when the weather cools off.
