Last Sunday my crew and I stopped in for lunch at Gatlin’s Fins and Feathers. I have to admit there was a lot of anticipation about this spot. We’ve heard so much about the food and couldn’t wait to try it out!
As we walked in, we were greeted by a lady and seated immediately. We arrived before the lunch rush which was perfect.
Our waiter came to the table as soon as we were seated. He had such a bubbly personality. He welcomed us and took our drink orders.
We perused the menu while we waited for our drink orders.
Gatlin’s has a Crispy Livers and Gizzards appetizer so we started with the that. The Liver and Gizzards were fried perfectly. They were tender and seasoned well. Loved the crunchy batter. The appetizer was served with ranch and jalapeño ranch. Really yummy.
Our son ordered the Fried Catfish with French fries. He loved the catfish. The plate of catfish was nice for a kid’s order.
Our daughter ordered the Everything Gumbo. The gumbo included shrimp, chicken, okra, crab, smoked sausage with rice. The gumbo was a nice size with lots of the ingredients. They weren’t stingy with the ingredients at all.
The gumbo was delicious. Our daughters only complaint was that the rice was in the gumbo instead of on the side.
I decided to try something other than seafood so I ordered the Smoked chicken Enchilada. This dish included pulled smoked chicken enchilada topped with salsa verde, crema and cotija cheese served with cilantro lime rice. My side was the cream corn.
Unfortunately I have to say I didn’t care for this dish. I appreciate them offering an alternative to the fried food. But the dish overall didn’t work for me.
The chicken was almost lost in the dish.
I do feel a smoked chicken bowl would have worked better. Maybe with the pulled smoked chicken, the lime rice with the pickled onions, corn and even beans with the sauce would be a better alternative. I was disappointed because I really wanted to like it.
The side of cream corn was delicious. This was the star. Really yummy.
My husband ordered the Fried chicken with Fried Fish plate with a side, the collard greens. He added a side of the red beans.
The fried chicken was fried perfectly but was a little too salty. They were heavy handed on the salt for the chicken.
The fried fish was superb. Fried and seasoned perfectly. The red beans were delicious. Creamy beans and well seasoned.
The collard greens were well done. Really good.
Overall our dining experience was amazing. The staff at Gatlin’s was friendly and attentive.
Our waiter I believe was Martinez and he was the BEST!
The food overall was well done. We had a few items we didn’t like but we had many that we loved.
We didn’t try dessert but we will be sure to check it out next time.
